Louis Latour Corton-Charlemagne 2011

Louis Latour Corton-Charlemagne 750ml 2011
Sku: 14924

After the ravages of the phylloxera epidemic at the end of the 19th century the Latour family took the decision to tear up the dead Aligote and Pinot Noir vines and to replace them with Chardonnay. The Corton-Charlemagne vineyard is situated in the prime area of the hillside of Corton where its southeasterly aspect ensures maximum exposure to the sun. The fruit is harvested as late as possible to guarantee maximum ripeness.

Tasting notes
This Grand Cru wine has a citrus bouquet with a rich tropical fruit character. It is intensely powerful and fills the mouth with a multiplicity of flavours ending in a fine, steely finish which lingers on the palate for minutes. This wine needs 4 to 5 years to open up and can age for up to 20 years.

Rating
Wine Advocate 87 points (Nov 2014)
Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The 2011 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru from Louis Latour has a much more austere bouquet than the 2011 from Domaine du Pavillon, although it is well defined and should open with bottle age. Light resinous notes develop with aeration accompanied by dried white flowers, then returning after ten minutes, there are suggestions of volatile aromas. The palate is crisp and taut with a fine thread of acidity. This is very harmonious and poised with good depth and real grace on the spice-tinged finish that demonstrates commendable persistence.
 Wine Spectator 92 points (Jul 23 2014)
An intense, concentrated style, with a mineral streak underlining the peach, apple, lemon and spice flavors. This is linear, showing polish and a long, spicy finish. Best from 2017 through 2028.óB.S.
