Mastroberardino Taurasi Radici 2009

Mastroberardino Taurasi Radici 750ML 2009
Sku: 16970

A fine accompaniment to roast meats and larger game (deer, wild boar, etc.), spiced dishes or truffle, and mature cheese. In the two thousand year history of the Aglianico grape, Taurasi, the wine of the ‘vigne opime’ of old Taurasia mentioned by Livy, has a special place. This wine has seen an astonishing series of vintages which have charmed with their style and personality. Radici, which was produced for the first time in 1986, is the result of painstaking research into exposure, chemical and physical characteristics of terroir, and topography. Its strong personality, dense structure, and aromatic concentration are the primary features of this prestigious symbol of Irpinian viticulture.

Tasting notes
Colour: Ruby red Nose: Full, complex, intense bouquet redolent of violet and berries Palate: In the mouth it is enveloping, elegant, and persistent. The background has distinct notes of plum, bitter cherry, strawberry jam, black pepper

Rating
Wine Spectator 92 points - A rich red, with expressive flavors of mulled plum, black cherry, licorice and baking spices, layered with subtle accents of dried herb, tarry mineral, graphite and seared mushroom. Structured by sinewy tannins, this is finely knit and mouthwatering on the long, aromatic finish. Drink now through 2029.A.N..November/2014 eRobertParker.com 94 points - The 2009 Taurasi Radici represents a special selection of grapes from two areas: Mirabella and Montemarano. The first vineyard sits at 300 to 400 meters above sea level with volcanic, mineral-rich soils and the second is even higher in elevation with southern exposures and clay soils. Fruit from Montemarano ripens later and gives the wine the acidity and the tannic structure it needs for long cellar aging. Usually, Montemarano fruit goes to the Riserva version of this wine, and what is left over goes here. Radici is dark and powerful with full-throttle intensity and a touch of bright acidity. It shows good potential for a long evolution. .Monica Larner, April/2015
