Georges Duboeuf Morgon Jean Descombes 2010

Georges Duboeuf Morgon Jean Descombes 750ml 2010
Sku: 20360

Jean Descombes has succeeded in creating one of the nicest estates in Morgon. He was the kind of man who enjoyed life to the fullest and was always ready to lend a hand. His cellar has become a hot spot in the Beaujolais region. The whole world has passed through his friendly cellar where old bottles of wine, sausages and goat cheese have been chosen with care to greet the visitors. A unique winemaker, Jean did not leave his cellar during the harvest, leaving the grape picking to his two employees. ¾ of the vineyards are more than 30 years old and are planted in the best regions: "Le Py”, "La Roche Pillée”, "Bellevue” and the "Pillets”. The long list of prizes won in competitions is ample proof of the perfect wines that the Jean Descombes estate produces.

Jean Descombes died in October 1993. The torch was handed down to his daughter, Nicole Savoye-Descombes who is continuing with the same enthusiasm and competence true to her father’s tradition in the Cave of Jean Ernest Descombes.

A harmonious Morgon with a delightful blackcurrant flavor, this wine is very representative of its appellation.

Wine Advocate 88 points (Aug 2011)
The gamey side of this appellation may come out over time, although I would recommend drinking this – like most of Duboeuf’s 2010s – within the next couple of years. Duboeuf’s perennially prominently fruity 2010 Morgon J. E. Descombes – for some reason now labeled this way rather than as “Domaine Jean Descombes” – offers an exuberant abundance of dark cherry and boysenberry garlanded in wisteria, with welcome measures of refreshing primary juiciness and saliva-liberating salinity. At the same time, there is a sense of fine underlying tannin and a bit of extraneous bitterness in the finish, but I suspect this will be worth following for at least 3-4 years. ”
