Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova 2009

Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova 750ml 2009
Sku: 23968

Casanova di Neri was founded in 1971 by Giovanni Neri. Located in Montalcino, Italy, the estate has produced exceptional Brunellos since its debut vintage in 1978. The estate is currently run by Giovanni’s son Giacomo, a humble vintner who perpetually searches for ways to improve his wines. Giacomo’s hard work and commitment to the Neri legacy has been duly recognized in 2006, his Tenuta Nuova was named Wine of the Year by Wine Spectator and his 2001 Brunello Cerretalto was awarded 100 points. The 2006 Brunello Cerretalto was awarded 100 points by wine critic James Suckling. The 120 acre estate is divided into four sites Pietradonice in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, Cetine in Sant’Angelo in Colle, Cerretalto a natural amphitheatre located near the Asso River and Fiesole, the oldest vineyard situated northeast of Montalcino. Giacomo produces three categories of Brunello: the vineyard blend White Label and two single vineyard wines, Tenuta Nuova and Cerretalto. All the fruit is hand-picked and the wines age for a minimum of 24 months in oak barrels of varying sizes before release. Casanova di Neri Brunellos are elegant wines that manage to balance wonderful raciness along with great concentration and structure. Each one exhibits Tuscan typicity, crafted in a modern style.

Tasting notes
A lovely, modern Brunello that offers layers of ripe, dark fruit intermingled with French oak, spices, minerals, violets and licorice.

Rating
Wine Advocate 92 points (Feb 2014)
From vineyards in the southern part of the appellation, the 2009 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova does show some of the hallmarks of the warm vintage. Compared to the base Brunello, the aromas here are slightly less delineated and you do get whiffs of overtly ripe raspberry and blackberry that intermingle with exotic tones of Asian spice, licorice and incense. In the mouth, the wineís fabric is lush and rich with sweet tannins and opulent consistency. It needs a few more years to flesh out. Drink: 2016-2025.
 Wine Spectator 91 points (May 7 2014)
Smells slightly jammy, with floral, cherry, raspberry and balsamic flavors. Silky and persistent, with refined tannins on the finish. Needs time to integrate fully. Best from 2016 through 2027.óB.S.

Technical notes
(100% Sangiovese) Fruit from densely planted, early ripening vineyards located in the southern end of the appellation was harvested, macerated and fermented for 23 days. The wine aged for 30 months in small oak barrels and 18 months in bottle.
