| The Jaboulet family has been respected as vigneronsin Crozes-Hermitage for more than 200 years. Pioneers in the Rhone, they discovered the greatness of the appellation and helped build its reputation as a top wine-producing region. Today, Philippe and Vincent Jaboulet, 5th and 6th generation respectively, are carrying on the Jaboulet family winemaking legacy with the establishment of Domaine Philippe & Vincent Jaboulet. With a keen understanding of and an emphasis on terroir, Philippe and Vincent focus strongly on their 70 acres of vineyards in the northern Rhone. In their vineyards, the Jaboulets employ severe pruning and systematic de-budding, defoliation and green harvest. They also practice a lutte raisonnee philosophy, which involves treating pests or diseases only as needed to respect and promote the innate qualities of terroir. They are traditionalists: red wine fermentation is in oak tanks and punch-downs are made by hand. Additionally, quality is achieved by destemming, using cultivated yeast judiciously, keeping lots separate through fermentation and limiting the use of the press. This respect for tradition and the winemaking knowledge passed from generation to generation, combined with select modern technology, allows Domaine Philippe & Vincent Jaboulet to produce wines with the signature characteristics of the northern Rhone’s most distinguished appellations. The 2006 vintage was the first to be produced entirely by Philippe and Vincent Jaboulet as a winemaking team. |
