Grapes for the Canaletto Pinot Noir are grown in the Oltrepo Pavese hills in Lombardy, north-west Italy. The Lombardy region stretches from the mountains down to the shores of Lake Garda, with many different microclimates and soils in between. The essence of Lombardy comes from its plentiful supplies of water, with majestic rivers flowing down in to the region’s great lakes: Maggiore, Como and Garda. The Oltrepo Pavese hills rise abruptly south of the Po valley towards the Appenines and have a relatively mild climate, characterized by a hot dry summer going into autumn, which serves to ripen grapes fully. Deep in the Lombardy countryside, the mountains and lakes combine to provide an excellent microclimate for growing grapes. The grapes for the Canaletto Pinot Noir are grown on hillside slopes, where they are ripened to perfection. Pinot Noir is perfectly suited to these higher vineyards, where it develops ripe, charismatic fruit characters.
