Renato Ratti Barolo Conca
Vinous 92 points (Apr 2012)
The 2008 Barolo Conca shows quite a bit more freshness and vibrancy than the Marcenasco. Freshly cut flowers, spices and sweet red cherries are woven together nicely in this gracious, mid-weight Barolo. The French oak is deftly balanced. Though quite tight and understandably young, the Marcenasco impresses for its overall balance. -- Antonio Galloni
Wine Spectator 92 points (Dec 5 2012)
A ripe style, offering plenty of plum and black cherry, shaded by vanilla, sandalwood and toasty oak. Finishes with a burst of tannins, as much from the wood as the grape. Plum and balsamic notes linger on the finish. Best from 2016 through 2030.óB.S.
Wine maker notes
Noble and generous, glory of old Piedmont, a wine suitable for long aging, Barolo is the absolute master of the table. It conquers the palate with the conviction of strength, harmony and fullness and holds its sway at length. The ”Conca dell’Abbazia dell’Annunziata” (The hollow of the Abbey of our Lady of the Annunciation) is one of the oldest sub zones of the entire Barolo District, an area already appreciated by the Benedictine Monks for its particular soil and microclimate. Growing here is the purple red ”Anemone Coronaria” flower, a one-of-a-kind rarity in the entire Langhe region. The Barolo Marcenasco Conca is boldly full-bodied and tannic.
A great wine for important dishes, red meats on the spit or grilled, game, ”grande cuisine” white and red meat dishes and aged cheeses.
