Joseph Drouhin Cote de Beaune Rouge
Wine Advocate 89 points (Aug 2013)
The 2011 Cote de Beaune, which is different from Cote de Beaune Village in that it comes from declassified vines in the Beaune appellation, offers plenty of cranberry and wild strawberry fruit. It has a delightful fresh, supple palate that is very approachable, but there are very fine tannins and the finish is refined and classy. Wonderful! Drink now-2018.
Site: on the hill overlooking the city of Beaune. This appellation should not be confused with Cote de Beaune-Villages (a blend of various villages from the Cote de Beaune). History & tradition: this is a particular wine since it comes from the vines of the Joseph Drouhin estate (total vineyard area around 3 hectares - 7.5 acres) as well as from the younger vines of Clos des Mouches and other Premier Crus of Beaune that have been declassified (a Beaune wine can be declassified into Cote de Beaune). Soil: chalky, not very deep. The slope can be steep and the exposure is South/South-East.
