Anthonij Rupert Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Anthonij Rupert Cabernet Sauvignon 750ml 2009
Sku: 1913346*

The vineyards selected for the Anthonij Rupert wines are chosen from vines planted on very specific sites and soil types. The canopies of each block and the final yield of each site was managed precisely to express the character of the different varietal and location.

 Vinous 90 points (Jun 2015)
(as of 2011, this wine will be almost entirely made from Franschhoek fruit): Bright ruby-red. Deeper pitched and a bit more roasted on the nose than the 2009 Cabernet Franc, showing a slightly dehydrated quality to the aromas of blackcurrant, plum, cigar box, graphite and herbs. Plush, silky and sweet in the mouth, conveying a liqueur-like ripeness to the flavors of red fruits, violet, coffee, mocha and pencil shavings. Finishes large-scaled and long, with lush, broad, dusty tannins. Comes across as sweeter and oakier than the Cabernet Franc, but without quite that wine’s refinement.
Wine Advocate 87 points (Oct 2014)
The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon comes 65% from Rooderust and 35% from L’Ormarins cropped at 6 tons per hectare and aged for 18 to 24 months in new French oak. It offers clean, mint-tinged blackberry and strawberry fruit on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with smooth and rounded tannins. The acidity is well-judged but it simply lacks much in the way of personality on the finish.
 Wine Spectator 92 points (Jun 11 2014)
A big, broad-shouldered style, with dark espresso, ganache and steeped plum notes layered with fig paste and smoldering tobacco details. Best from 2015 through 2020.óJ.M.

Wine maker notes
Grapes are picked by hand, placed into small lug boxes and transported to the cellar in refrigerated trucks. In the cellar, the whole berries are manually double sorted and then gravity fed into fermentors. Each batch is cold soaked for a few days and then slowly brought up in temperature, fermentation takes place naturally. The wines were aged for 18 to 24 months in 100% new French oak, bottled unfiltered and bottle aged for a year.
